Hey guys!! Wat’s up?
Tom May 02, 2009
not much, you?
Tom Feb 11, 2009
There’s a known issue currently with emails not sending… I’m trying to figure this out.
Tom Feb 11, 2009
I think it’s back to normal now.
Tom Feb 06, 2009
Testing svvarm running on a shiny new server.
Tony Nov 13, 2008
I like it ok. Way too much for Joe Sixpack, Joe the Plumber, Joe Wallstreet and most of the Tom Anderson’s.
Tom Oct 07, 2008
How about now?
Bill A. Jun 16, 2008
I hate the current configuration! That is, I want to still be able to select individually the recipients I choose. Not groups! (Other than that… it’s great!)
Tom Jun 16, 2008
What if you had more control who could subscribe to the groups? I was thinking about making it so some groups could be locked down. For example, if you have a group named ‘family’ you may want to restrict the membership to be just people in your family.
Bill A. Jul 28, 2008
Subscribing seems so presumptuous. Cut to the chase, and let me send links to whomever I want, based upon perception of shared interest.
Tony Jul 28, 2008
Private groups – not generally announced when created, but a distro list of notification recipients.
Tony Jul 28, 2008
Banner adds for subscriptions – i want to sell other users on subscribing to my cool groups!
Tom Jun 14, 2008
I just posted the latest version of svvarm… check the news link at the top of the page for more detailed info. Feedback always welcome (even if you don’t like it).

Contemplating some radical changes… wondering if my current users would notice. ;-)
Tom Jun 11, 2008
Radical changes coming this weekend.
Tom Feb 11, 2008
You will probably have to login again. Sorry about that but it’s all for a good cause… server updates that should help us move forward more easily.

What else would make svvarm better?
JimA Dec 27, 2007
A couple of ideas:
1) Have the ‘Title’ automatically be the ‘Title’ of the page you are sharing (with an option for overriding the Title if you like). 90% of the time I want the title of the buzz to be the title of the webpage, since ‘comments’ is where I’ll add my own commentary.
2) Categories might be nice. To scale the site, as more and more people are sharing links, it might be nice to have the svvarm home site show the top buzzes for different popular categories, such as Sports, Humor, Politics, Programming, etc.
3) I also like the idea of an option to make buzzes private.
Tom Dec 28, 2007
1) The title is the title of the page currently. Am I missing something?
2) How do you feel about tags? Then you could give it multiple tags instead of just a single category. We’ve talked about doing this but wanted to hold off to see if it’s useful enough.
3) Private buzzes would be a good idea for links you don’t want the rest of the world to see (or if you just want to buzzmark something for yourself).
Thanks for the input.
JimA Dec 29, 2007
1) What I wish for is a way for the “Title” to be auto-populated from the title of the web page you are sharing. Svvarm won’t let you leave the field blank, but it would be neat if it were filled in automatically (from the page’s source) instead of me having to copy/paste it, or hand-type it. Look for example at http://svvarm.com/link/477. The title was entered as “10 Attributes of Really Lazy People”, but if you view the source for that page the actual is “HolyJuan: 10 Attributes of Really Lazy People”. If the ‘Title’ field autopopulated you could then delete "HolyJuan: " if you wanted. It would save having to copy/paste two fields (the URL, and the title).
2) Tags might work fine, but I’m trying to envision how this would manifest itself on the svvarm home page. If the site were to get really popular, a post could disappear from “the buzz” list within a few minutes. Categories or tags could be a way to help manage that, which could be implemented in different sections on the svvarm home page or perhaps by different tabs on the page. (If you really wanted to go wild, maybe tabs or categories that would appear could be a user prefs thing.)
Often I see really interesting links on ‘the buzz’ so it’s a shame if they disappear too quickly. I realize there is a “show all” link at the bottom, but by categorizing them then the buzzes in categories I’m interested in aren’t likely to disappear as quickly.

1) I just discovered that Safari is not populating the Title field correctly. I think it was working with earlier versions of Safari. So that’s a bug we’ll have to look into.
2) It’s the same problem that sites like digg/reddit have too. We have an algorithm in place now to keep the really popular stuff at the top now. And maybe we could even enhance that to show things that would be of interest to individuals based on things they liked in the past. At the current time it’s not a big issue but it’s definitely something for us to think about and fine tune going forward.
Tom Dec 30, 2007
1) fixed… BTW, have you added the svvarm button to your toolbar? You mentioined pasting 2 URL and Title… you shouldn’t paste EITHER if you use the [button](http://svvarm.com/button).
JimA Dec 31, 2007
Excellent – thanks! That javascript button works great. (No more copying/pasting!)
JimA Oct 20, 2007
Why do new friends (who haven’t registered?) show up as only “friendname@” (no domain is shown)
Say i mistyped a friend’s email address, how do i edit it, or delete it?
Tom Oct 25, 2007
The idea is to not display email addresses for other people. Perhaps we could show the email when you hover over it(?). If you try to add someone you already have then it will highlight that person instead of adding them again.
We still need to provide a way to delete friends.
Tom Oct 11, 2007
Now an RSS feed is available for “the buzz”.
Soon we will also provide each user a feed for their “my buzz” links (will allow you to follow, via RSS, only links sent to you).
Tom Oct 12, 2007
Ta-da! You now have an RSS button for “my buzz” too. So click one of the buttons on the [main page](/) to add an RSS feed to your favorite reader.
Tom Oct 10, 2007
We added a search button so you can find those old links more easily.
Tom Oct 04, 2007
We just deployed a new version which displays most active comment threads at the top. It might take a little getting used to at first. But in the end we hope that it will be more useful because the most recent comments will be at the top so you won’t have to scroll down as much.
Bill A. Sep 27, 2007
Not real clear whether you’re selecting or deselecting until you try it. I like the ease of use.
Bill A. Sep 27, 2007
Nevermind – It’s Clear now!
Tom Sep 25, 2007
Yesterday we deployed a new version of the buzz posting form that allows you more flexibility in how you choose you send a link to. Instead of just selecting which group you want to send to, now you can also enable or disable individual friends within the group by just clicking on their names. I’d like to hear of your impressions of this new way of selecting users. We strive to make it easier and faster to use but I’d like to hear your opinion on whether we succeeded.
Bill A. Sep 24, 2007
How about “private” comments sent to friends or groups?
Tom Sep 25, 2007
We’ve opted to make the commenting system public to keep it simple. It would be difficult to figure out who is able to comment on what if you sent the link to multiple groups at different times for example (or if your friends also sent the link to other people, would those people then be allowed in the private area?).
On the other hand, what if we made it so you could make the buzz itself private? For example, if you had a link to a site which you didn’t want the world to see, you could mark it as private when you share the link. Then any conversation in that link would only be visible to those who received the link. It’s just a thought… we don’t currently plan on implementing this but we certainly could if is deemed to be a useful feature.
Bill A. Sep 27, 2007
I think it becomes a more valuable tool if you have the ability to make relevant comments to colleagues that have similar interests.
Alan Sep 14, 2007
I might be interesting to see who sent a link. Maybe we could see who sent it if they’re a friend of ours?
Tom Sep 14, 2007
Right now, to keep it somewhat private, you can only see information about which of your friends have sent you a link. Click on the comments link for a buzz you have received and there will be a “receipts” section showing who sent you that buzz. I don’t think we’ll show that information for people who are not in your friends list.
Alan Sep 14, 2007
Clarification: when looking on the “buzz” page or looking at the comments page for a particular buzz, show who created the buzz and/or who they sent it to?
Tom Sep 14, 2007
Sharing new links is now much faster. Instead of making the user wait for all the emails to be sent out, we run that part in the background so we can return the user to his/her browsing more quickly.
Quent Sep 11, 2007
The “about 4 days ago” kind of time/date stamp that exists for comments would be nice to have on “The Buzz” too.
Tom Sep 12, 2007
would it be the time the link was first added to the svvarm? what if it was added a year ago but just became popular this week?
Bill A. Sep 07, 2007
I know not everyone uses Macs (yet), but it would be great to have a function to open the address book for entering recipients.
Tom Sep 07, 2007
Perhaps we could import files with vCard format which Address book can export.
Tom Sep 04, 2007
Please discuss your svvarm experience here.
- what do you like/dislike?
- have you found any bugs?
- how could we make it better?
We will read and seriously consider all comments. Thanks for using svvarm!
